Michael Marx, co-founder of Marx Fencing Academy, is a legendary figure in the world of fencing. As the academy celebrates its 10th year, it's a testament to Michael's enduring legacy and commitment to the sport. Michael's illustrious career as a fencer is marked by his remarkable achievement as a five-time Olympian (1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, and 1996). He stands out as the only male fencer in the last 70 years to have made US Olympic teams in both foil and epee, showcasing his exceptional versatility and skill.

Throughout his athletic career in men's foil, Michael has garnered numerous accolades, including a record eight US national championships, an individual bronze at the Pan American Games, and an individual silver at the World University Games. His extraordinary accomplishments have earned him the prestigious title of United States Olympic Committee Athlete of the Year on five occasions.

Transitioning from an athlete to a coach, Michael has continued to make significant contributions to the sport. Under his guidance, his fencers have achieved remarkable success, qualifying for several US Olympic Games, representing the US on more than 70 World Teams, and winning World Cup and World Championship titles. They have also secured more than 100 National Championships in both individual and team events. The success of his students extends beyond the fencing strip, as many have earned placements in Ivy League colleges.

Michael has also made significant contributions to the administrative side of the sport, serving as Vice President of the United States Fencing Association (USFA). His dedication to developing talent was recognized in 2007 when he was named Developmental Coach of the Year by the USFA, and again in 2018 when he was honored as National High School Coach of the Year. His contributions to the sport have been immortalized through his induction into the United States Fencing Association and The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.

Michael earned his Fencing Masters’ Degree in Poland in 1992 under the tutelage of Zbigniew Czajkowski.

His knowledge, experience, and passion for fencing continue to shape the next generation of champions at Marx Fencing Academy.
